Ingredients of Washing Powder

washing powder is a synthetic detergent with surface active agent as the main ingredient and appropriate amount of builders with different functions. Washing powder is in powder or granular form and is used for washing clothes or other fabrics. German Henkel invented washing powder for the first time in 1907 using borate and silicate as the main raw materials.

Washing powder is an alkaline synthetic detergent that is a chemical substance extracted from petroleum. Anionic surfactants, sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate, and a small amount of non-ionic surfactants are the main ingredients of washing powder. In the production process, some additives are added, such as phosphate, silicate, sodium sulfate, fluorescent agent, enzyme, etc., and it is made by mixing, dusting and other processes. Besides, most of the 4A fluorspar is used in washing powder now instead of phosphate. In fact, these chemical raw materials are like a "double-edged sword", and direct contact may also have adverse effects, such as causing rough skin, itching, and causing allergies in some people with allergies. So users must pay attention to rinsing during the cleaning process.

Ingredients of Washing Powder

There are five categories of detergent ingredients: active ingredients, builder ingredients, buffer ingredients, synergistic ingredients, dispersant LBD-1, auxiliary ingredients.

Specifically, the ingredients of general washing powder include fabric fiber antifouling agents, anionic surfactants, nonionic surfactants, water softeners, soil suspending agents, enzymes, fluorescent agents and perfumes. However, low quality washing powder often contain harmful ingredients such as phosphorus, aluminum, and alkali. Among them, the surface active agent in the washing powder has the functions of dissolving, emulsifying, soaking, cleaning, sterilizing, softening, foaming, and preventing static electricity of the washing powder. Especially synthetic surfactants, not only have side effects such as roughening of hands, but also the major public hazard that pollute the environment. In addition, phosphorus has been banned from being used in detergents in most countries around the world.

1. Active Ingredients

The active ingredient is the main ingredient in the washing powder, and it is a class of substances called surfactants. Surfactants can weaken the adhesion between stains and clothes. Its principle of action is to remove stains from clothes under the action of washing water flow and mechanical force such as hand rubbing or washing machine agitation, so as to achieve the purpose of washing clothes.

The various complex effects of surfactants, as well as the relationship between it and the cleaning ability, are the research directions of various washing powder companies and brands. Although surfactants are chemical products that play a major role in washing powder, there are many factors that affect the effect of surfactants in actual production and life, such as water hardness, complexity of cleaning items, temperature, pH, added flavors, sterilization, bleaching, foam inhibition, etc. The compounding of surfactants in the washing powder is mainly to maximize its cleaning ability under the complicated external environment or under the condition of controlling the cost.

Since its establishment, AoGrand Group’s washing powder brands CLEACE have been committed to researching surfactants that adapt to complex external environments and applying them in the development of new products for nearly 30 years. Our research and development results are perfectly embodied in CLACE brand washing powders.

2. Builder Ingredients

The builder ingredient is the most used ingredient in washing powder and generally accounts for 15%-40%. The main function of the builder ingredient is to soften the water by binding the hardness ions contained in the water, so as to maximize the effectiveness of the surfactant. In other words, the builder ingredient improves the quality of the water, thereby making the washing powder work in a more effective and efficient manner.

In our daily life, the common so-called phosphorus-containing (phosphate) washing powder is the washing powder with phosphorus-based substances as the builder ingredient, and a phosphorus-free (zeolite, sodium carbonate, sodium silicate, etc.) washing powder is the washing powder with non-phosphorus-based substances as the builder ingredient.

Among the non-phosphorus-based builder ingredients, zeolite is recognized by the industry as a good substitute for phosphate. In addition, there are also various "cheap" non-phosphorus-based builder ingredients on the market, such as sodium carbonate (soda ash), sodium silicate (water glass) and their various complexes of different proportions. However, long-term use of these builder ingredients will make the clothes hard and yellow, because these builder ingredients eventually form water-insoluble precipitates during the washing process. If they cannot be effectively suspended in the water during the washing process, they will remain deposited on the clothes. The formulations of CLEACE brand phosphorous-free washing powders use effective dispersants, so that the formed insoluble particles will not be deposited on the clothes and prevent the clothes from hardening and yellowing.

3. Buffering Ingredients

Common dirt on clothing is mostly organic stains, such as perspiration, food, dust, etc., which are generally acidic. Therefore, the manufacturer will mix a considerable amount of alkaline substances in the washing powder to neutralize and make the stains easier to remove. Soda ash and water glass are commonly used buffer ingredients.

It is worth mentioning that although alkaline is beneficial to wash clothes, they will form precipitation with hard water. In addition, excessive amounts of alkaline substances will cause a large amount of precipitation to be formed during washing, which will cause damage to clothing and skin, and make the washing effect worse instead. Therefore, in accordance with the relevant national and international regulations on the alkalinity of washing powder, we add an appropriate amount of buffering ingredients in our CLEACE brand phosphorus-free washing powders to make the clothes soft and comfortable, while taking care of consumers' skin.

4. Synergistic Ingredients

On the market, the biggest difference between various brands of washing powder is mainly the difference in synergistic ingredients. Generally speaking, the synergistic ingredients used in washing powder can be roughly divided into the following categories:

(1)The synergistic ingredients that improve the cleaning effect on blood stains, sweat stains, oil stains, etc., such as enzyme preparations (protease, lipase, amylase, etc.), bleaching agents, bleaching accelerators, etc.

(2) The synergistic ingredients that ensure that the clothes will not turn yellow or gray after multiple washings, such as anti-redeposition agent, dirt dispersant LBD-1, enzyme preparation (cellulase), fluorescent whitening agent, anti-dyeing agent, etc.

(3) The synergistic ingredients that protect fabrics to improve hand feeling, such as softener, cellulase, antistatic agent, color protection agent, etc.

Our CLEACE Washing Powders, with brightening factors and eco-friendly phosphorus-free formula, remove stubborn stains quickly, give the laundry deep cleansing and make your clothes as bright as new, fluffy and soft. The anti-deposition particles added prevent dirt to accumulate or get absorbed by clothes again. The plant essence - the lemon extract and blueberry extract - with aromatic smell, takes care of hands gently. The unique Scent Retention Technique invented by our R&D center can keep long-lasting fresh fragrance for as long as 2 to 3 weeks on the clothes.

5. Auxiliary Ingredients

Auxiliary ingredients in washing powder mainly refer to those substances that have an effect on the processing and the sensory experience of washing powder, but have no actual cleaning effect. Such ingredients generally do not improve the washing ability of washing powder itself, but play a greater role in the processing and the sensory experience of washing powder, such as making the washing powder white in color, uniform in particles, non-caking, and pleasant in aroma.

Although the ingredients and formulas of the major washing powder brands are different, most washing powder is most suitable for washing clothes that are exposed to dust such as coats, jeans, down jackets, sofa covers, etc., and clothes that are not easily damaged such as cotton, linen, chemical fibers and other materials, etc.Our CLEACE Washing Powders are applicable to cotton, linen, chemical fiber, kids clothing, white clothes and underwear, and suitable for washing away sweat, mud, oil, milk and fruit juice on clothes, for both hand wash and machine wash.
